I trained with a guy years ago and after watching this guy, Tom Slaven, smash
hugeblocks of ice at a kick boxing demo he said that is OK but anyone can do that, I wonder if he can smash an ice cube - now that would be impressive - get 10 from your freezer, line them up and let me know how you go

In the U.K. a Muaythai Master, called Master 'A' ( younger brother to the world famous Master Toddy), used to perform a demonstration at events where he would meditate for several long moments while performing a ceremonial ritual, and then he would smash breeze blocks with a head butt!
It was quite amazing to see and always impressed the audiences.
When I organised my first ever promotion I sought out Master 'A' asking him if he would perform the same demonstration at my event.
He told me with a beaming smile that as much as he enjoyed the demonstrations, he no longer enjoyed the head aches afterwards.

You know it's not common knowledge they're brothers, at least in the USA. Very nice story since I don't know much of Master A but I know they still will feed fighters to each other for promotions.

Those based in the Manchester area of England have been very lucky with regards to talented martial arts instructors.
Master Toddy came to England in the 1970's, along with Master Sken and Master Woody. Following these were Master A, and Master Krin.
Initially Master Toddy, Master Sken and Master Woody were actually teaching Taekwondo, then later this progressed on Muaythai style Kickboxing.
Master Toddy's Muaythai system was more sport based, and he coached some excellent World class fighters such as Ronnie Green and Pele Nathan.
Master Sken had his successes too at international level with Humphrey Harrison, Oliver Harrison, Sandy Holt and Phil Nurse. However Master Sken, now Grand Master Sken, concentrated his coaching less on the sport and more as a martial arts system. Continuing his methods from Taekwondo, Master Sken systemised a succesfull grading syllabus that taught self-defence techniques, breaking techniques, spectacular kicking techniques, traditional Muaythai methods ( Muay Boran ) and well as modern European methods ( Modified Muaythai / K-1 style ).
Grand-Master Woody went along a similar path to Grand-Master Sken, systemising a syllabus that is now recognised by authorities in Thailand. With regards to the Sporting side of Muaythai, G.M. Woody built up and expanded an Amateur Muaythai format that is now used internationally.
Hmmm - just realised, I am going a little off topic. This post was actually intended to explain why Muaythai exponents were performing breaking techniques. Sorry, back on topic...

Shihan Gilbert is well known and well respected. I think it is a great place to begin your search into Kyokushin.

Well.. he has held what is it.. 14 Guinness world records. I'd say that's legit. Whether or not it's true to the "don't make too fuss about yourself" spirit.. maybe not so much
